What's new
BIG NEWS ...More Scholarships Available
We have added new scholarships since printing our 2024 Application. The Ranch at Rock Creek has four $5000 scholarships available for current graduates! These scholarships require a special letter of intent and recommendations. Also, there is the Russell B. Smith Scholarship for $2500 and the Farmers Scholarship by the Munis Family for $1100. Check with your high school counselor for more information to apply.
FLINT CREEK EARLY CHILDHOOD SCHOLARSHIP
Any Granite County resident may apply for $500 to attend training for early childhood development, primary aged education, or childcare.
PHILIPSBURG ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP
11th graders, 12th graders and adults can apply for two scholarships offered for residents pursuing college, trade school, vocational training or online coursework. One $1500 scholarship is for a high school student (11th/12th grades) and one $1500 scholarship for an adult. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a quality of community service that meets the Rotary Standard of Service Above Self. KPK TRUST SCHOLARSHIP
Current graduates of Drummond and Granite High school can apply for a $3000 scholarship. Requirements include attending a Montana College: 2 year, 4 year, private, public or tribal. Essay required: 1000 words about yourself, your plans for the future, and what you have done to earn this scholarship. Get the application on the FORMS page.
VERN & ANNE STEFFAN SCHOLARSHIP
Any current graduate, student athlete, may apply for a $500 scholarship. Requirements include attending any college or post-secondary vocational training. Essay required: 250+ words describing a favorite sport memory from high school and how sports enhanced the high school experience.
EZRA R. GENTRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Graduates from Granite High School may apply for a $500 scholarship. Preference will be for those pursuing trades or vocational training, or union apprenticeship wherein funds may be awarded for tools and equipment required on the job.
GRANITE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Any Granite High School graduate may apply for a $500 scholarship. Requirements include attending any college or post-secondary vocational training or online coursework leading to certification or degree.
WRITING CONTESTS from 4th Grade through Adults
Grade school writing contests are sponsored by the Flint Creek Ancient and Free Masons and Blackfoot Communications. Topics vary each year and cash awards are given throughout the county. See FORMS page for details.
7th/8th graders are invited to compete in a Graybeal writing contest about living in a rural community. See application and requirements on the FORMS page.
9th/10th graders are invited to compete in a PAEF writing contest. See application and requirements on the FORMS page.
NEWSLETTER
PAEF publishes a mail-out newsletter each year in November. It includes information including: upcoming events, contests, and scholarships and the previous year's winners.
OUR HISTORY
The Philipsburg Area Education Foundation (PAEF), is a nonprofit tax-exempt charitable organization. It was founded on December 7, 1999 to expand funds available to provide educational opportunities for our citizens. The organization started its endeavors in Philipsburg, and then as funds expanded, so did PAEF's ability to offer funding throughout Granite County. PAEF has awarded thousands of dollars to students throughout area.
PAEF established an endowment fund with The Montana Community Foundation (MCF). Endowment fund donations are invested in the market utilizing services of the MCF investment pool. Only the earnings from these investments are used to implement PAEF's mission. PAEF can draw 4% of this balance one time per year to fund its mission. Funds donated to various awards, such as the Rose and Thomas Brogan Memorial Scholarship and the Commander Bernard O'Rourke Scholarship, are held in this fund to be drawn upon when a scholarship is to be awarded.
PAEF also established a general fund to accept donations from people who wanted to contribute specific dollars for specific students and projects. Some donations are one-time gifts of cash, and some are gifts of personal property to be converted to cash for awards. General fund donations are used for immediate cash outlays such as the payment of scholarships reported in the newsletters.
